All change involves a loss. The death of a loved one or an end of a relationship are changes with an obvious loss. But even changes where we would say "Congratulations" to someone involve a loss.

"You're retiring!" "You're moving!" "You're expecting!" "You've graduated!"

While there can be happy and exciting aspects to life's changes, there are also losses. With any change in your life, it can be helpful to acknowledge the losses as well as the gains and to allow yourself to grieve the losses. Recognizing what you may be mourning and intentionally saying goodbye well will help you embrace the change and move through the often uncomfortable transition phase to your new normal.
